Las tendencias de diseño de FrogTape® para 2014 ofrecen las paletas, patrones e ideas de proyectos ideales para aficionados
AVON, OHIO (January, 2014) – There’s no better time to enhance your home’s style than the start of the New Year. To inspire homeowners to make on-trend updates, FrogTape® brand painter’s tape has partnered with interior designer and DIY television personality Taniya Nayak to reveal the top five home design trends for 2014.
“Looking ahead into 2014, it’s going to be a great year to add character and personality throughout the home,” says Nayak. “According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, the housing market is finally starting to recover, with new home sales surging by 38 percent since last year and hitting a five-year high in June. With so many consumers finding the perfect home, they’re willing to experiment with design as they get settled into their new space… rather than keep it beige and boring.”
There are a number of unique details, patterns and pops of color that will infuse a space with elements that are on-trend for the New Year. According to Nayak, the following trends will be at the forefront of design in 2014:
Painted Detail on Furniture Pieces “Refurbishing old furniture pieces will be a popular – and easy – look to achieve in 2014,” says Nayak. “It’s simple to bring an old piece back to life with a little bit of paint and a lot of creativity.”
Using new FrogTape® Shape Tape™ makes this process easier, as it’s pre-cut in three of the most popular patterns: chevron, wave and scallop. Before painting, simply apply the tape in the desired pattern on a hand-me-down or thrift store find to create a custom piece for your home… at a fraction of the cost of buying new. “Shape Tape not only makes this project quicker to complete, but since it’s treated with FrogTape brand’s patented PaintBlock® Technology, you’ll create super-sharp lines and prevent any paint bleed,” Nayak adds. From old decorative mirrors, to dressers, accent tables or even upholstered chairs, a painted pattern can liven up nearly any piece of furniture for a fun and updated look.
“Incorporating white into a design is timeless, classic and always versatile,” Nayak explains. “The trend for 2014 is to pair white with different textures, like natural wood, to create a focal point in the room while allowing other warm features to stand out.” Mixing these elements like furniture, painted pieces and fabric is a more interesting – and modern – approach; the finished product appears intentional and streamlined, not unfinished and boring. “Another method is to create contrast with white by using a single, bold accent color, like yellow, fuchsia or navy, to move your eye across the space,” Nayak recommends. “By rethinking how to use white, it will transform the design from one that feels sterile to one that’s inviting and warm.”
What’s Old is New Again: Vintage Details
Muted color palettes, industrial accents and natural wood tones are a few vintage details that will be popular in 2014. “Dusty shades of color or sepia hues are important elements to include in order to achieve this trend,” Nayak explains. “From gray and taupe to certain shades of green or rose, you can find the perfect palette that will transform the appearance of your space – whether it’s a century home or new construction – into one full of vintage details.”
Also, incorporating pieces of distressed wood will add to the overall vintage effect. It’s easy to achieve this look, even with pristine lumber. Add nicks and scrapes to the surface with a heavy metal chain and a hammer. Once you’ve added the desired amount of distress, cover the wood with a dark stain. Quickly wipe away, allowing the color to settle into the imperfections. Whether it’s a focal point in your room, like a coffee table or media console, or accents dispersed throughout, like picture frames or wall sconces, distressed wood elements help tie the vintage trend together.
Masculine Meets Feminine
According to Nayak, combining masculine and feminine components into home design is another popular trend in 2014. “Merging styles to make the entire family happy is not always easy,” says Nayak. “Satisfy everyone’s tastes with a few creative solutions. Painting a design on a wood floor allows the raw masculine features of the wood to show through, while also introducing a feminine overlay of bold patterns and colors.” Popular patterns include quatrefoil, herringbone and modern floral designs.
Metallic Finishes and Accents
“The perfect finishing touch is a metallic accent,” says Nayak. “Just like an outfit, a room needs the perfect accessories to make it complete; and metallics are great, eye-catching additions.” The hottest finishes in 2014 include brass and antiqued mirrors: both add depth, light and the right amount of sheen to your space. With quick and easy DIY projects – like spray painting branches silver or gold and popping them in a vase – you can provide instant glamour and help your home design shine in the New Year.
